Holidays, Hussle, Bussle, Bring On The New Year

I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready for 2010. This year has been long enough, so I’m preparing for a very productive new coming. My goal, or as others might call it a resolution, is very simply put –

“Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop.” -Ansel Adams

Pricing Updates

I’m re-working my pricing page to make it more understandable and include as many details as possible.  Remember, these prices are generalizations and I can make custom packages for each client if desired.

With things they way they are now, we are all trying to determine where our money is going.  I want to remind you to consider budgeting in professional photography.  Even though right now it may seem like a superfluous expense, over the next few years and then generations to come, your investment will pay off repeatedly.  I love looking through old photo albums and scrapbooks.  As fun as the snap shots might be all out of focus and distracting, the great professional photographs reveal so much more personality and clarity.

So keep an eye out for the updated pricing page.

Blank Slate

I have no idea what to say but I have to say something because it’s been too long.  I know that sounds pointless but I’m trying to get back on track with not only this website and posts, but also my photography.

Where to go from here is the question. . .

Tales Photographs

I was having too much fun meeting people, tasting new drinks and liquors, and helping Meade work that I unfortunately didn’t get but a few photos one day. Just some snap shots of Meade working the Rums of PR Swag Room bar and some of our new friends. Check out my facebook page as that’s where I’ll be posting those fun photos.

Now for the professional, artistic photographs . . . I will be going through the massive amount of swag we received from the three of us and our very good friend, Eriq Wities from Drink Me Magazine and Open Content in San Francisco. As I sort through, I will be taking some product shots of new brands, fun promotional materials, and of course Meade’s new drink recipes with these luscious samples.

My goal is to post a preview photo every day until I make it through the pile. When you see something you like, let me know.

Been Too Long

Yeah, it’s been too long since I’ve posted and I apologize. I have to say it’s been a busy and fun summer so far. We’ve had some house guests, I’ve photographed a wedding, and I’ve even started earning my keep as a bartendress for the Bacardi In The Mix program.
(For those who don’t know, Bacardi will supply your party with 2 hours of FREE mojitos and they send us out to teach your guests how to make them. It’s wicked fun and what’s better than a mojito on a hot day? How about a FREE mojito on a hot day. Let me know if you want more info on that.)

Anyway, to keep this short and sweet, I’ll be even more crazy busy this week because, that’s right ladies and gents, it’s . . . wait for it . . . TALES OF THE COCKTAIL 2009!! Yeah, baby! That’s why I’ve updated my header photo to reflect my home for the next week – The Hotel Monteleone. (I took this photo at last year’s Tales) So be sure to check back regularly for updates on the happenings of Tales and the what’s what of drinking in New Orleans. Wish my liver luck.

Updates . . .

It’s been too long since my last post. I’ve been working hard. I started working for Jazz Fest, which has been wonderful. I’m also scheduling some photo shoots, so it’s been a great two weeks.

My new weekly project:

This week I’m going to devote to contacting potential clients. Seems so simple.

My Photo-A-Week:

With the new house and so much wall space, I’m needing to print and frame more photographs. It’s so great to have a reason to get my work out and about. This is a photo that I’ve been wanting to frame and just haven’t for one reason or another. It’s actually already printed, but sitting all alone in a book. I think it will be my next one to go on the walls.
This windmill is in my in-laws backyard and I have on many occasions been very intrigued by its speed and versatility. When I took this photo, I knew there was a storm brewing. The pink sky was the dead giveaway. The pale, faded red blades just blended so well into it, like they were not trying to cut through, but trying to join forces. The blue tail was just holding them back, holding them in place, or maybe even holding them right where they needed to be.
We rush through life, speedy, trying to get somewhere, get everything done, while at times missing that perfect scent of a rose or a simple clear, blue sky. Mesmerized by this windmill, I felt in place, centered, happy. It seems so easy to let things fly by or even join them, the hard part is to stay your ground and keep your footing. We all have a blue tail, what’s yours?

Weekly Project

We have been going through our storage bins and I have found a whole other stack of photography magazines, so I’m going to continue my project from last week.  So far, I have made note of many helpful things as well as recycled several old magazines.  I will continue sorting through these magazines and books, making notes, and getting rid of the ones that I won’t reference at a later date.  It also makes the subway rides that much more enjoyable!

Photo-A-Day (12.26.08)

Today was a relaxing, cleaning house kind of day. Nothing too exciting, but I kept thinking about the great outdoors. I miss being active with rock climbing, scuba diving, camping, etc. I also miss the lush green nature. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving the cold, white winter, but I can’t wait to see New York in the spring.

So looking back at my past warm weather adventures, I remember this gorgeous dragon fly just posing for me. I was exploring Audubon Park one afternoon in New Orleans and found this pond with lily pads and a very friendly dragon fly. This particular shot is my favorite because the green is so green and makes the dragon fly just pop and yet at the same time blend in to its natural habitat. I also love the semi-transparent leaf showing the dragon fly’s shadow. The transparency is repeated in the dragon fly’s wings, creating an even more pleasing flow. I just love nature and its beautiful qualities. It’s so real.
