AcA New Exhibit: “Visions”

Art House Circle Gallery: September 1 – September 30, 2009: Lafayette, Louisiana

“Visions” revisits the 2005 exhibition “Sustained Winds : before – during – after”. The exhibition –organized by Rose Macaluso Courville and the Acadiana Center for the Arts in 2005– aimed to support Louisiana artists after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Exhibition gave local and displaced artists an opportunity to respond to their new environment or reinterpret past work. Four years after that ill-fated day on August 29, 2005; this show features work by Brad Benisehek, Tim Best, Lucius A. Fontenot, Annette Elizabeth Fournet, Emily Kincke and Heather Weathers. Catalogues from the 2005 show will be availabe at the front desk.

Exciting News and Photo-A-Week – Sustained Winds Book Published!

The exciting news is that I just received my copy of the Acadiana Center for the Arts book, Sustained Winds – Artists Respond to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita – Before, During, After, and it turns out that all three of my photography pieces that were exhibited are featured in the book!

So for this week’s photo-a-week, I present my favorite – Aurora Occidentalis.

Aurora Occidentalis

As we approached downtown New Orleans from Canal Street, I noticed a gleam of light that was reminiscent of hope. Driving from darkness, complete blackness, stop signs instead of stop lights waving us by. I finally saw New Orleans again. Aurora Occidentalis means Western Dawn. I saw light, then darkness, and then light again… this photo demostrates my sense of hope through light ahead coming for me, coming for all of us.

Fort Worth Community Arts Center Biennial

I have entered a piece in the FWCAC’s 2008 Biennial. Aurora Occidentalis will be on display at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center from this Saturday, March 8, at the FWCAC’s fund raiser event, Sight & Sound, until the Closing Reception on Saturday, March 29.

Sight & Sound is from 7-midnight on March 8th. The closing reception is the Spring Gallery Night from 6-9pm. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the opening this weekend because of a prior engagement, but I am planning on attending the closing reception from about 6-7:30pm before another prior engagement.

The exhibit will also be available during regular FWCAC hours, M-F 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-5pm.
